Why Reads and Weeds?

I’ve been a bookworm all my life. My eyes have suffered. My mom would say, “You gonna ruin your eyes readin’ in the dark all the time!”, and she was RIGHT! Bless her sweet heart.

I’ve lived a million lives through books. Thanks for the adventures on a million flights, James Patterson. I owe ya one. Thanks for making me laugh while learning science stuff, Mary Roach. Keep that shit up. You got a gift, girl… BUT! BUT!… there are a million MORE lives to read!

How exciting! How is anyone EVER bored? GEEZ.

How grateful I am to the teachers who taught me, to the ones who encouraged me to read… what a gift you gave me. It has probably saved my life several times.

What would I have been like in elementary school without “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing” and “Superfudge”? Who would I be if I hadn’t read “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” and “Skinny Legs and All” in college? How would I have run my life in my twenties and thirties without “The Greatest Salesman in the World” and “Awaken the Giant Within”? Who would I have been in my thirties without anything by John Irving or anything about spiritual growth that I could get my hands on.

Oh my, oh wow… The way my mind has changed!

And then there is the magic of the cannabis plant… that is also fun to share… that relaxes me and focuses my mind, that tunes me into the music and the sounds of my friends’ voices and reminds me not to take things so seriously AND soothes my joints. So grateful for that plant. So grateful for the healing and the community and the ceremony. Amen.

And don’t even get me started about the love I have for fucking awesome conversations with small groups of friends… SIGN ME UP! Yes, yes let’s gather and share and laugh and discover and grow together!

Soooo… obviously if you READ with WEEDS and friends… I mean, it really cannot be beat.

Oh yeah, and we record it to share the love with you fine folks!

Hash Bash 2021 - Ann Arbor, MI

Happy Hash Bash! We usually gather by the thousands on the diag at the University of Michigan but we are still not Covid free here in Michigan so we are mostly celebrating and protesting virtually. Thanks to all the people who have read with me and taught me so much over the last few years!
